MEDIA ALERT 25 October 2007
Australian Music Industry Lines up for Climate Action

The Cat Empire, Blue King Brown and John Butler have all signed-on as ambassadors for Australia’s biggest climate change action, Walk Against Warming.
More than 250,000 Australians will Walk Against Warming on Sunday 11 November. High profile Australian musicians have also signed up as ambassadors and supporters, lending their considerable weight to calls for the next Australian government to commit to serious action on climate change.
On the eve of the ARIAS, Australia’s biggest music industry event, John Butler has been the latest high profile Australian musician to pledge his support for Walk Against Warming and greater action on climate change. John Butler joins Blue King Brown and The Cat Empire as the first Australian musicians to SAY YES to climate action in Australia.
“Walk Against Warming is a great way for this very important issue to get as much attention as it can. Global warming is something that affects us all no matter what race, colour or creed; rich or poor,” says John Butler.
Walk organisers, the Nature Conservation Council have joined forces with The Climate Institute, GetUp!, the CFMEU mining union, COzero, Greenpeace, The Wilderness Society, The Australian Conservation Foundation and 125 community and environment groups across NSW.
“Action is the only thing that will solve this problem and help prevent many of the catastrophes that will occur if we do nothing. This walk is a show of solidarity of Australians who believe in a solution to global warming, who believe in another way of living on this planet and who believe that this generation can make a difference and are only custodians of this planet for future generations to enjoy," says Butler.
In the lead up to the event the entertainment industry and other high profile Australians in sport, media, business and the community will sign up as Ambassadors to Walk Against Warming and where possible attend the marches and rallies in their communities.
Expected to attract more than 100,000 Sydneysiders, the Sydney event will start at 1:00pm on Sunday 11 November and will rally in the Sydney Domain. Melbourne, Brisbane and other capital cities will all host large community marches and rallies with smaller community organisers jumping on board to coordinate localised events.
